This is a fine and rare Zimba Mask of hollowed spherical form with a carefully shaped facial plane, a slit mouth with teeth markings below a beautiful triangular nose. The Zimba tribe are known to have settled in the region of Elila river in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Zimba masks were used by dancers for making ferocious performances at festivals. The following is a shallow carved wooden mask with a fine dark brown patina, oval eye openings and mouth openings elongated pointed triangular mask and quite distinct facial features and it clearly shows signs of age and usage.
