The Zande are found in the northern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, along the banks of the Uele River. Zande sculptures are often representations of ancestors Some of the Zande sculptures are associated with the highest rank of the secret Mani society which protects society members from the dangers of illness, hunting, and evil spirits. The following statue has a brown patina and looks considerably old.
