The Topoke people are an ethnic group living in the Isangi Territory in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Stools are regarded as quite ordinary objects in D.R.C. The chiefs of clans had specially carved seats of the most various forms, including those with high backs from the craftsmen. These stools were part of family treasures, which would be passed down from generation to and were used for ceremonies and rituals.
This particular stool was carefully carved by a skilled craftsman. It has a circular seat and a round base smoothly finished with a nice texture. The wooden stool has a nice dark brown patina and looks old.
