The Tabwa are an ethnic group living pr on the southwestern shores of Lake Tanganyika, and also found in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. This is beautiful and elegant Tabwa sculpture, with a brown patina carved from wood. The Tabwa sculptures played a function of consolidating the power of the chiefs. Other statuettes were used for divination.
