This is a Suku ceremonial bird from Suku, also called Basuku, people located in the southwestern Democratic Republic of Congo and northwestern Angola. The Suku made various wooden sculptures extending from religious and magical figures to everyday status items, such as elegantly carved cups and hair combs. Such carved bird statues were purposely employed during ceremonial functions. This interesting statue is carved from wood with a khaki patina and looks visibly old.
