The Songye people are a Bantu ethnic group from the central Democratic Republic Of Congo, they neighbor the Tetela tribe. This is border sculpture between the Songye and the tetela used as a power figure used to combat witchcraft and sorcery. This sculpture is believed to promote fertility and success, vanquish enemies and protect one from evil. The following sculpture is crafted from hardwood with its hands attached to the belly, it has interesting facial features with a brown patina, it shows perfect age and usage.
