They, settled on the left bank of the Lualaba River. This mask was crafted out of elephant hoof and we believe that the Songye revered elephants for their wisdom and intelligence. This is a very rare mask and it shows visible signs of age and usage and it is no doubt an old field-collected piece and bares a brown patination.
