The Songye are found in the Democratic Republic Of Congo,the Songye made power figures known as Nkisi that were used to combat witchcraft and sorcery. They were were also believed to bring promote fertility and success, vanquish enemies and protect one from evil. Large ones were owned by and served the community; small ones were for individual families.The following sculpture is crafted from hard wood with a brown patina.
