Songye Cane (LMCL-053)

The Songye people are a Bantu ethnic group from the central Democratic Republic Of Congo, the Songye made power figures. Walking sticks/canes were carved for men’s attire, they were carefully carved ornamental objects made in different forms, they were used to provide support and as act as a symbol of authority among the Songye. This is an elegant cane decorated with a human figurine at the top standing on a wide convex side-shaped sculpted piece of wood and a long stick, it has a dark brown patina and shows signs of age.
