Songola masks and sculptures are very rare. They represent recently deceased ancestors. The Songola are the northwestern and western neighbors of the Lega in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Such masks were securely kept in houses. The mask combines the features of the Lega tribal masks. The following mask is made from light wood and shows visible signs of age.
