This beautiful spatula/cooking stick is from the Obivundu tribe located in Malawi west Africa. Often cooking sticks were a form of fetishes to prepare celebratory purposes that probably represented the hierarchy among the chiefs of the tribe. They were mostly utilitarian with fetish purposes. This is a beautiful figural Mwiko/ spatula carved from hardwood with a brown patina decorated with a carved figure on the handle.
