Metoku masks are revered for their healing and miraculous properties, providing behavioural models, to encouraging healing and/or to promoting peace. The Metoko tribe lives along the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Typically Metoko masks are usually covered with horizontal and vertical grooves. Metoku masks are usually very abstract and often have angular features and are sometimes covered in paint or incised dots, the following mask is made from light wood and has a dark patina and looks visibly old
