The Mbuyu originate from the northwest forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Mbuyu carvings represent various spirits. These sculptures were important objects in ceremonial activities and some were owned by the Chiefs representing their rank in society. The following statue has a dark patina and shows a considerable age.
