The Mangbetu are an ethnic group found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, living in the Orientale region. Harps and trumpets t were used by court musicians and were often adorned with sculpted human heads. It is important to note that Mangbetu statues were employed in a post-contact environment and did not have any religious or magical use as they served a very specific purpose. The following sculpture has a brown patination and shows visible signs of age and use.
