The Mangbetu are a people living in the north-eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The chairs were used by clan chiefs who wanted to show off their power and wealth. These were reserved for the ruling class to show authority and prestige. This sculpture is 100% carved in wood and has a shiny brown patina with visibly old age looks.
