This fantastic high rest chair originates from the Luguru tribe in East Africa, Tanzania in East. Such stools (high rest) carved in human shape were reserved for chiefs only. They were used as throne seats for chiefs. This piece is carved from a piece of hard, heavy wood with a black and brown patination. It displays the abstract shape of a woman, with breasts on the inside of the rest, and neck and head with high crested coiffure in the upper section.
The almost round seat rests on four columnar legs. This is an old piece with good usage, traces are visible on the backrest. It was finely finished and it is in good condition.
