This is a rare Luba miniature figure from the Luba, an ethnic group in the South-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire). Luba tribal art is mostly known for a feminine representation to show the importance of women in society. Much of the Luba art appears to serve a certain purpose although this has been replaced by symbolic purposes.
This particular figure was carefully sculpted to be held in the hand, it was often employed during dancing ceremonies. It has an elaborate hairstyle and interesting features, it has a brown patina and looks old.
