Luba Excavation Pot (LMCL-022)

The Luba people or baLuba are an ethnolinguistic group indigenous to the south-central region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The majority of them live in this country, residing mainly in its Katanga, Kasai, and Maniema provinces believe this to be an old Luba Excavation pot, it is usually women who used to mold such pots.

Clay was worked on entirely by hand and shaped and fashioned into the desired shape. In other cases, the women would pour the clay into a mold made of pottery, wood or a calabash. Clay pots were and still are being used to cook food, store water and for various other food preparation functions
