The Luba are found within the South-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The Luba turned to a diviner to seek for identifications of different illnesses and misfortunes, the diviner sought from the spirits for answers regarding the illnesses. They were also used in the induction ceremonies of new kings. The art of the Luba is known for the representation of women in Luba sculptures which is widespread and stresses the important role of women in Luba society. These representations of female bowl bearers served as instruments of communicating with the spirit world in the context of divination.
