The Lega is found in the virgin forest of eastern DRC, between the great lakes and the Lualaba River, next to Luba people. These small figures were displayed at the final phase of initiation into the Bwami society. Whether in the form of human figures, heads, or tools such as spoons, knives, hammers, and billhooks, they represent the proverbs through which Bwami ideals are taught. Lega spoons were known as “Kakuli”.Spoons were symbols of lineage continuity. The following spoon was crafted out of an elephant hoof and looks visibly old.
