The Lega Katanda in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo along the Lualaba River. This Katanda or sleeping mat sculpture represents an adulterous woman who mocks the rules of a high ranking official of the Bwami. They were also used to represent laziness and sexual promiscuity to teach moral lessons to the community. This figure has a flat body pierced with holes and arms spread out wide. This sculpture is carved out of light wood with a dark patina and signs of old age due to much usage.
