This mask originates from the Kela tribe located mainly in the Kasai-Oriental province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is a zoomorphic mask of a bird beak. We could not ascertain what such masks were used for in the Yella society but this is an old bush collected mask with a brown patina, white kaolin on one side, red pigment on the other side, a pointed beak-like chin and it displays perfect signs of age and usage.
