The Hemba are located along the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Hemba art foams are closely linked to Luba art. Hemba sculptures are representations of ancestors. Female sculptures are associated with fertility as well as divination purposes. This sculpture has a dark patina, looks visibly old and shows clear signs of usage.
