Dinka Cane (LMCL-056)

The Dinka people are a Nilotic ethnic group living in South Sudan. They mostly live along river Nile, from Mangala to Renk, in regions of Bahr el Ghazal, Upper Nile and Abyei Area of the Ngok Dinka in South Sudan. Walking sticks/canes were for men’s attire, they were carefully carved ornamental objects made in different forms, they were used to provide support and as act as a symbol of authority and the Dinka. This particular cane is long with scarifications on either the sides, it is carved in hardwood and has a brown patina. It shows clear signs of considerable age.
